Giro di KiKa 2024: Lab-Partners cycles for a future without children with cancer

From 16 June to 21 June, Niels van Berkum and Marty De Graaf of Lab-Partners participated in the Giro di KiKa. During this event, they cycled through the beautiful Dolomites for five days and even climbed the famous Stelvio. Marty, an experienced participant, already cycled in the 2018 and 2022 editions. This year, he and Niels participated with the team: Passione di Jurre di KiKa.

Cycling for a Good Cause

The Giro di KiKa was not just another bike ride; it was an event with a cause close to our hearts. Their participation was entirely dedicated to raising money for the Dutch Children’s Cancer Free Foundation (KiKa). This impressive ride through the Dolomites and over the famous Stelvio was a physical and mental challenge for Niels van Berkum and Marty De Graaf.

KiKa is a foundation working tirelessly for research into childhood cancer. Every year, hundreds of children are affected by cancer in the Netherlands, and although survival rates have improved in recent decades, the work is far from finished. KiKa’s ultimate goal is to eliminate child cancer from the world. They do this by funding research into better treatment methods to achieve higher survival rates and improved quality of life for children who survive the disease.

Every euro donated contributes directly to this research. The sponsorship money raised during the Giro di KiKa makes a difference in the lives of children fighting cancer. It supports scientists and doctors in developing new treatments and ensures more children survive this terrible disease.

Team Passione di Jurre di KiKa: Cycling for Jurre

Our participation in the Giro di KiKa was a sporting challenge and an emotional journey. Niels van Berkum and Marty De Graaf cycled as part of Team Passione di Jurre di KiKa, a team founded in 2018 in honour of Jurre. Marty participated with this team for the third time in the Giro di KiKa. The first time was in 2018, when Jurre was still alive but could no longer participate given his health. In 2021, the question came again to participate in the 2022 edition, and naturally, Marty said yes. By then, the team had changed and grown slightly larger. Now, in 2024, Marty and Niels participated with a large team, which included many of Jurre’s friends. Team Passione di Jurre di KiKa consists of friends and family members who want to keep Jurre’s memory alive. For Marty and the rest of the team, it is a way to stay connected and fight together for a future without childhood cancer. This joint effort not only helps to keep in touch with each other, but also to show their love and support for Jurre’s family. The impact of cancer is huge, but when it affects a child, it is even greater. That is why Team Passione di Jurre di KiKa is committed to this important cause.
