Marc van den Berge
Project Manager
Marty de Graaf is at home on all, or at least many, markets. He is a true all-rounder. Born and raised in a Spakenburg fishing family, he could just as easily have become a fisherman. But in secondary school, he turned out to be good at chemistry. So he ended up at the laboratory school in Amersfoort, with a preference for clinical chemistry.
After completing his studies, he worked at various laboratories in various positions: analyst, haematology section head, quality officer, laboratory manager and project leader. And, in his spare time, he earned his doctorate in business administration at Nyenrode, the ideal complement for his next interim job as laboratory manager: the robotisation of a renowned GP laboratory.
In 2011, Marty started for himself, maintaining his relationships and further expanding his portfolio with the accreditation as a recognised auditor with the Accreditation Council. Since 2019, he and his associate Niels van Berkum have formed the complementary engine of Lab-Partners. Marty for strategic and tactical consulting and sales, and Niels for project management and implementation. With the most imaginative co-production to date being the building of the Hudson Laboratory, the large-scale Corona laboratory where more than 30,000 samples per day could be analysed during the height of the pandemic, was commissioned by the central government in record time. Over the past few years, he has led several complex programs at home and abroad, including a program to transition five laboratories in NHS hospitals in London.
An all-rounder.
With his versatile background and experience, co-founder Niels van Berkum is truly a generalist. For many years, he was responsible for the construction and fit-out of a series of primary care centres across the country. He then focused primarily on the renovation and optimisation of diagnostic centres and several laboratories across Europe, from start to finish, including the handover and installation of the analytical equipment. During the construction of the high-volume COVID-19 laboratory, he also took charge of the necessary permit applications and part of the day-to-day operational management.
Niels is hands-on and ensures that, despite the inevitable hiccups, what has been agreed is delivered on time. If necessary, he rolls up his sleeves and gets stuck in himself. A deal is a deal. His strength lies in executing the action plan punctually based on realistic planning and, where necessary, adapting to achieve the agreed objective. He does this by managing, guiding and motivating the parties involved, their staff and his own colleagues. There is nothing better than bringing a project to a successful conclusion together. This is the source of his intrinsic motivation.
Menno is a permanent member of Lab-Partners and has earned his marks in the field. Since joining Lab-Partners, he has developed into an experienced project manager. With his background in Life Sciences (biological and medical laboratory research), Menno understands better than anyone how technical, logistical and substantive aspects come together in complex laboratory environments.
Menno has now successfully overseen multiple implementation processes and a wide range of projects, during which his responsibilities included liaising with suppliers, creating layout plans in AutoCAD, supervising refurbishment work and monitoring the schedule.
For the latter, he primarily uses Smartsheet, an online platform for project and work management that enables real-time collaboration, progress monitoring and structured planning.
With his decisiveness, precision and eagerness to learn, Menno is a fully-fledged and versatile member of the Lab-Partners team. He is flexible and available for both national and international projects.
Angry young men and women are indispensable for a company that wants to operate successfully in a dynamic and innovative industry. But knowledge and skills based on years of experience are at least as important.
